ABOUT US

Logo - two kids reading at the bottom of a tree

I was born on the island of Jamaica, but I currently reside in South Carolina. After homeschooling my son for four years and teaching in the South Carolina public school system, I know the importance of early literacy and one-on-one instruction. My company, 123 Mango Tree LLC, was founded in 2007 to promote literacy through reading, music, and art.  Your Mobile Tutor and Nadine Johnson Books are integral parts of 123 Mango Tree LLC.

Your Mobile Tutor provides scholars with the support, guidance and instruction they need to be successful in school. I also have storytime with hands-on craft to help children build their early literacy skills. Your Mobile Tutor offers a convenient way to get your scholars the help they need to stay on track. I travel to your location and tutor scholars in my mobile school

My love for writing began during college, however, it wasn’t until the birth of my son that I started writing for children. It was difficult for me to find inspiring books that featured African American boys, so I decided to create stories for my son and other children. Under the imprint, Nadine Johnson Books, we create wholesome, character-building books that engage and empower children. From picture books to middle grade books, our unique stories motivate children to keep reading, which is necessary to improve their literacy skills. As a parent and teacher, I know the importance of early literacy. My goal is to provide children—especially reluctant readers—with relevant stories to help them enjoy reading while inspiring them to make a positive difference in the world.

I encourage all parents to start reading to their children as soon as they enter the world, and to make reading a part of their daily routine. This is essential because sharing books with children at an early age helps them to develop language skills, begin enjoying books, and starts them on a path to reading for themselves.

Workshops/Progams

Early Literacy Speaker

Parents and caregivers need to know the importance of early literacy and their role in ensuring that their children have the best start possible. This talk is designed for future and current parents who want to learn how to develop an early literacy program for their child or enhance their current learning plan. The program also discusses how to build a child's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

My Little Library

The My Little Library program was created to help children in need build a home library. Having immediate access to books increases a child's love for reading. This helps children develop strong  literacy skills and create a solid foundation for future learning. Over the years, we have donated more than one hundred books to shelters and local, underserved schools. You can support this worthwhile cause by emailing us HERE.

Poetry Workshop

Through this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to poets such as Langston Hughes, Maya Angelo, and Anais Nin. Participants will identify the figurative language used in various poems then they will create their own poems. Participants will identify the figurative language used in various poems and create their own poems. The Poetry Workshop will introduce or reinforce the topic while building the participants' literary skills. The workshop serves to increase the students’ knowledge and appreciation of the art form through the reading and creation of poems. The program is ideal for classrooms with no more than 30 fifth - eighth grade students.
